Liverpool Road

(Shop numbers are shown in brackets)

Liverpool Road, also know as the Hume Highway in parts, is the main arterial road which passed through the suburb of Ashfield's central business district.

Age has wearied and condemned this precinct which is now dominated by a Shanghai Chinese influence. Revitalisation of this main street is of paramount importance to sustainable economic growth in Ashfield.

Liverpool Road Ashfield probably has more Shanghai style restaurants than any other part of Australia and they are complemented by many fine Thai, Indian, Korean and other Asian style establishments.

Second only to the number of restaurants is the number of Asian specialty stores where all manner of exotic foods, herbs and spices are available.

This precinct's prior Italian influence is still evidenced with the Merlino brothers', Christopher and Anthony, Glencastle Wines & Spirits (No 281) outlet and local real estate personality Tony Andreacchio's Raine & Horne Real Estate franchise (No 232), both great businesses with great customer service.

Being "plastered" with Cooper Brothers (No 381) is a lot different to the experience gained from the Merlino products with many of the fine heritage homes and mansions of yesteryear benefiting greatly from the building products supplied by them.

Not all Chinese businesses are engaged in the food industry with John Young of Blue Sky Computer (No 300) providing excellent value in computers and after sales service.

For a great deal on white goods right in the heart of Ashfield don't go past Tony at Riteway Discount Appliances (No 188) where you can also buy a well priced guitar and other instruments. Right across the road is Carolyn Croker's Inner West Music College (No 2/183) where budding virtuosos are able to obtain expert tuition and guidance.

For all those home loan and finance needs look out for Bruce Carr from Resi (No 315), a long term local with a huge interest in seeing Ashfield return to its former glory.

Wests Leagues Club Ashfield (No 115) is the stomping ground of the old "Magpies" and is steeped in sporting history and wonderful memories. Recently refurbished to the highest level this proud and grand old club remains a local icon with a big generous heart which is always open to the local community and their projects.

Ashfield Council (No 260) has its administration building and Civic Centre in Liverpool Road. Plans are well underway to completely refurbish and upgrade the Council's civic precinct. The Town Hall and meetings rooms are an enormous asset in an area that is lacking in the larger public venues found in other areas.
